Design notes:'''At the end of 1868, rumours of gold being discovered in the Strath of Kildonan near Helmsdale. By 1869 more than 600 people had arrived in the area, seeking to find their fortune. The Duke of Sutherland was quick to pick up on this Gold Rush and introduced a £1 monthly charge to work as well as a 10% royalty on any gold found. The Gold Rush was, however, short lived and reached it's peak by August of 1869''
